About us

Boutique hospitality in the Trinity Alps.

Modern Basecamp, Historic Roots

Curated comfort for Trinity County outdoor enthusiasts.

The Handlebar Hotel was inspired on a riding trip through the Italian, Austrian and Swiss alps in September 2024.

After landing in Milan and renting bikes, the initial hotel had covered parking with direct access to the rooms which made staging very easy. Thinking this is how Europe will be, it seemed great. Most nights the bikes were parked out of sight around a corner or under a grape arbor. One hotel in Canazei, Italy had underground parking which was appreciated. The following Spring Paul rode to Cabo and on the way back came up the 101 and discovered Weaverville. The former Red Hill Motel had faded, was in disrepair and had some covered parking. Paul, after living on Kauai for thirty years thought this might be a fun next chapter after turning sixty. The riding in the Trinity Alps is fantastic either dirt or street, come see for your self.
